ursala’s books 2018-
Ursala’s Books is an on-going project which I have been working on since 2018 in collaboration with my daughter, who was five years old when we started it. In this project I make abstract art books using fabric, thread and paint which are then ‘read’ by Ursala.
Ursala’s unique linguistic narration lends simple yet powerful context to a book that relies solely on the aesthetics of fabric paint and thread and the interaction between those two, and which is otherwise made with no prior planning, thought or purpose.
Ursala’s Books created new means of communication between my daughter and I, one that transcended conventional storytelling, conventional roles and rules of mother-daughter, adult-child, illustrator-author - it did away with all of that to create a new language, one that we both adopted and embraced.
