the appearance of disappearance

2022

A printed publication that was my final graduation project. The publication contained a series of etchings with aquatint and letterpress.

Absence is universal in concept. We all experience absence of some sort. But it is also a very intimate and often hidden experience. No one really can quantify absence. The very impossibility of illustrating absence made it possible for me to realise what is absence and how does a disapearance occupy a place spatially, albeit on a plate.

The monooprint etchings that I made were spontaneous compositions. The process of ‘removal’ of ink and ‘emergence’ of image is connected to absence/presence and disappearance/appearance. It felt very fitting as a method to tackle the essence of the project.
